Another New ROM for the Samsung Omnia

Last time we tested a new ROM from Samsung (G4), we found there to be some modest changes to Omnia i900 (review).

The newest ROM, J1, adds some much-needed functionality as shown in the video above. Here's a round up of what is new:

1. Flick scrolling enabled
2. Choice of screen animations
3. Vibration feedback returns for the keyboard
4. New Profiles widget
5. DLNA Server application for sharing multimedia over a network (untested)
6. New build of Opera Mobile 9.5 (is a bit faster)

If you want the new ROM, grab it from the Samsung website. The Singapore ROM seems to work well for me (there is no USA release). Thanks to Darren W. for the tip!

Korea gets the Samsung T-OMNIA with a 806Mhz CPU!



By now, you've all heard all about of the Verizon Samsung OMNIA. But we find the T-OMNIA to be much more interesting! We mentioned it before, but look at the updated specifications:

    * Display: 480x800 pixels (versus 240x480)
    * CPU: 806Mhz (versus 624Mhz)
    * S-DMB (Digital TV)
    * UMTS/HSDPA 7.2Mbps (theoretical)
    * 4GB or 16GB
    * NO WIFI?!?!!

Meni je ovo moćnije od svih HTC modela bez tastature, no, ukusi su različiti.
Jedino ako se i na WM polju Samsung nije potrudio da ometa instalacije dodatnih aplikacija i stvori nekompatibilnost kao u S60 priči ...

Samsung Omnia - stari telefon u novom ruhu

Samsung je u poslednjih godinu dana postao prilično konkurentan glavnim igračima na tržištu smartphone uređaja - kompanijama Apple i HTC.
Telefoni kao što su Soul, Primera ili Giorgio Armani uneli su dosta novina i promovisali južnokorejsku kompaniju u pouzdanog proizvođača.
Nedavno je predstavljen "pametni telefon" Samsung Omnia (SCH-i910) koji predstavlja apdejtovanu verziju originalnog i900 telefona.
Pored nekoloko novina koje su ubačene u novu Omniu, tu su standardni WiFi, 3G za brz protok podataka tokom pretraživanja Interneta ili daunludovanja različitog sadržaja.



Kada su u pitanju apdejti, novitet je vidžet TouchWiz. On preko početnog ekrana nudi i alternativni "Today Scrren" lejaut. Naravno prisutna je i popularna Stylus olovčica za lakšu manipulaciju sadržajem.
Kada su u pitanju promene u korisničkom interfejsu (UI) prisutna je opcija skrolovanja prstima po Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional interfejsu. Ovo znači da nema teške manipulacije nezgrapnim prevlačenjem skrol barova sa e-mail porukama i programima.
Samsung i910 Omnia radi sa Verizonovom VZ Navigator GPS aplikacijom za navigaciju, kao i sa Visual Voicemail aplikacijom iste kompanije. Tu su i Messenger klijenti za AIM, MSN i Yahoo!
Ono što je identično kao i kod starijeg modela jeste kamera od 5 megapiksela. Kamera poseduje autofokus i opciju detekcije lica, kao i mod za detekciju osmeha.
Displej je veličine 3.2 inča i pruža sliku u rezoluciji od 400 x 200 piksela i naravno, osetljiv je na dodir. Ekran poseduje automatsku rotaciju slike, u zavisnosti da li telefon koristite u vertikalnom ili horizontalnom položaju.

Ukupna težina svega što se nalazi u telefonu iznosi 118.2 grama, tako da je telefon prilično prenosiv i dobro leži u ruci. Veličina Omnie iznosi 112 x 61 x 13 milimetara.
Baterija ovog telefona obezbeđuje oko pet i po sati razgovora, odnosno traje 19 dana u standby modu.

Samsung i910 Omnia za sada je u internet ponudi kompanije Verizon, a cena ovog pametnog telefona iznosi 200 američkih dolara.

New Samsung Omnia ROM - Widgets galore!



Samsung has continued to show their commitment to their Omnia smartphone by releasing regular updates for the smartphone. The latest version to leak, DXHL1, features many new widgets, and appears to include the ability to download even more from Yahoo.

- Customize widget (Show/Hide widget)
- AccuWeather widget
- Yahoo Finance widget
- CNN widget
- Google Search widget
- New Opera build 15233
- Samsung Mobile Blog
- and some more.

The update is a beta and not stable, and exclude some functionality like streaming media, so its not recommended for general use, but it does help to show the direction Samsung is taking.

Free and simple SIM Unlock for Samsung i780/Omnia



User _TB_TB on XDA-Developers has discovered that it seems Samsung has inadvertently left the tools for easily unlocking their smartphones on the phones itself. By locking your phone with our own password, you can easily unlock it.

He has developed this simple procedure to unlock your carrier-locked phone.

1) Download the ZIP file found in this XDA-Developers post.
2) Copy all three shortcut files to your phone.
3) run Lock.lnk
4) enter valid Mobile Network Code of any carrier eg. 26001 for Poland, Plus (Mobile Network Codes can be found here )
5) As NCK, enter 12345678 (this will be the unlock code)
6) tap OK (it should tell that SIMLock enabled)
7) run Status.lnk to see if its locked

 Now after you locked your phone with our own password, its time to unlock it.

8 ) run Unlock.lnk
9) enter code entered in point 5 (e.g. 12345678)
10) voila !

 For the Samsung i780 its even simpler.

1) In the phone dialler app, type in *7465625*638*#
2) enter valid Mobile Network Code of any carrier eg. 26001 for Poland, Plus (Mobile Network Codes can be found here )
3) As NCK, enter 12345678 (this will be the unlock code)
4) tap OK (it should tell that SIMLock enabled)
5)  in the Phone dialler, type in: *#7465625# to check if you are locked.
6) Finally, to unlock your phone, type #7465625*638*# in your dialler and enter the code you entered earlier.
